Favorite Things Thursday

Have you ever made a cake and the outside of the cake get toooooo done? Toooo Brown? Toooo Dry? Toooo Crusty?

Do you get that big dome on your cake that you have to lop off?

Well do I have a solution for you.

I. SWEAR.BY.THESE.

Bake Even Strips.

Bake Even Strips

They are little insulated fabric strips that you soak in water before you bake a cake.

Then once they have soaked up some cool water, you wrap them around your cake pan and bake as normal.

This was a 3″ thick cake pan, so I needed 2.

I won’t bake a cake without them.

I love love love them.

They are little security blankets if you will.

The Bake Even Strips come in different sizes Small(2  30″  1 1/2″ wide good for 2 8″ or 9″ pans) and
Large(4 strips, 36″, 43″, 49″ & 56″ good for 10″, 12″, 14″ & 16″ pans)

There are silicone ones too, but I have not used that variety yet

  1. I have ALWAYS wondered if these were really worth the hype. Once again, thanks!

What are the “pin” things in your pans? Something else to make baking a cake better? I need all the help I can get.

  2. I really need to break down and get me some of those. They are truly awesome.

  3. What?! I have never seen these. Thanks for the great tips.

  4. Count me as one of those who always wondered if these actually made a difference. I always have a bump on the top of my cakes. I’ll have to add these to my wish list! Thanks for the recommendation!

  5. Would that work for cheesecakes or other items that require a water bath? That would be cool.

  6. OK, daughter why haven’t you told me about these before?

  7. Those are so cool! I haven’t ever used them!

  8. Very Cool! I’ve never seen those before.

  9. How have I never heard of these before? They sound perfectly awesome!

  10. The “pin” things in her pan are actually upside down flower nails! You just grease them all over the same way you do your pan and stick them in upside down, then add your batter! They act as heating cores to help bake the cake more evenly! 🙂

  11. these sound pretty damn awesome! I guess I need to put these on my wish list.
