My Fight with the scale

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Slim-Fast for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not fat. Not obese by any means. But I am overweight for ME and my body build. I am 5′ 3″ with tiny bones.

All through High School, I was extremely active in Cheerleading, so that kept me in tip top shape. Then after high school I gained about 5-10 pounds. No biggie. Then I met my husband. The old saying kicked in ,”fat and happy”. I went to my all time weight high. THEN I got pregnant. I weighed 206 pounds when I delivered my first baby. Sure, after the baby, I lost some weight, but I still looked like I ate a small village. In 2007, I decided to get into shape. I went to the gym TWO hours every day and lived on tuna fish and nuts. I was rockin a hot body. I weighed 123 pounds, did not have one cellulite dimple on me, was 100% toned and looked like I was 18. I felt like a million bucks. I was sooooo happy with my outer exterior. I told myself I would never get fat again.  But honestly, I just couldn’t keep up that pace. I got so burned out. And in April 2008, I began my blog. The tuna and nuts were replaced by chocolate, butter and sugar. Slowly but surely, the weight came back on. Now I am back to being unhappy with myself and feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. Sure, people look at me and say your not fat, but I hide it well. I am tired of not fitting into any of my clothes. I can say that I am not going to quit my blog or make it a health food blog…what fun would that be? But something needs to change.

But there is a way that I believe that I do keep my weight under the 400 pounds I should weigh, considering all of the goodies I indulge in, and that is Slim-Fast.

In the mornings, I have 2 kids to get off to school, so there is no way I have time to cook myself a healthy breakfast. So I grab a Slim-Fast shake and drink it in the car.

I used to drink Slim Fast in High School. All they had back then was the powder that you had to mix yourself.

Long gone are those days. I actually enjoy drinking it now and it keeps me full. I am going to try really hard to get some weight off. I just need to gain some self control. I just LOVE food soooo much.

But who wants to live on diet shakes alone? That’s boring. Slim Fast also has some delicious snack Bars and meal replacement bars as well.

I personally love the Chocolate Nougat Gone Nuts bar. It reminds me of a candy bar and curves my daily chocolate cravings.

The new Slim-Fast Plan is the 3-2-1 plan.

  • You have 3 snacks throughout the day ..example..1 Slim-Fast 100 calorie snack bar, nuts, fruits and or veggies. This keeps your metabolism working all day.
  • Choose 2 Slim-Fast shakes or meal bars during the day.
  • Eat a 500 calorie balanced meal once a day

Let’s face it. Loosing weight boils down to calories in/calories out. Slim-Fast pretty much takes the thinking out of dieting. Just reach for a bar or a shake and you are good to go.

Slim-Fast can be purchased at most grocery stores, drug stores, online and big box stores. However, if you need help finding it, click here to find out where it is sold near you.

I am going to try to loose weight, I really am. I want to feel healthy again, and I hope that Slim-Fast can help me reach my goal. Now I am off to find the Lower Carb Creamy Chocolate Shake!!!!!

  1. oh god here we go again.
    :::covering ears::::

  2. This hits so home for me. Glad I am not alone in feeling this way.

  3. This is definitely something I’ve always struggled with too! I was so thin in high school and college and since I got married the pounds have been piling on. I’ve lost 30 this year, but I still have about 15 to go until my “goal” weight! We’ll see! Good luck dropping those extra lbs girl, you can do it! =D

  4. Leslie, we have so much in common and I didn’t even realize it! I was never a chubby kid but when I had my babies (and they are only 18 months apart) I ended up quite overweight and was that way for many years. As a matter of fact, the photo that made me change things was my oldest son’s college graduation photo. I saw myself and couldn’t believe how far I had let myself go. I was 110 pounds over my ideal HIGH end for my height – which I am too 5’3 – 6 years ago I lost 100 it all, and in the 4 years of blogging here I too have put on 20 of it again. I have been working hard though so I don’t gain more but dropping it seems to be a lot harder. Of course, I’m also almost 50! I go to the gym every morning though and I am loving it.

I don’t drink the slimfast shakes, I’m not a beverage person unless its water, coffee or booze. ;0) However I do like the other treats they make! Grumpy on the other hand has been a shake drinker but he was just recently diagnosed with diabetes so he doesn’t want to drink them for the high sugar/carb content. I now wish they would make a sugar-free low carb version. I haven’t seen one so I’m not sure but I don’t think they do.

Oh, and I LOVE Dawn’s comment. LOL

  5. Randi Lynne says:

I’ve never had kids, but am small framed like you and have recently put on about 15 lbs. My friends, family and co-workers probably think I’m vain because they don’t see that I’ve gained, but my clothes are getting tight. Like you said though, being comfortable in your own skin and fitting into you clothes are so important. I refuse to buy the next size up. My husband I are gonna do a few days of juice fasting to kick off a healthier diet. I’ve done several juice fasts before and they really help for me to mentally refocus. We both exercise a lot, but we need to be a little more strict on portion control and beer consumption and we’ll be able to get back into shape. Maybe your motivation will rub off on all your readers needing to drop a few!

  6. I’m right there with ya Girl. Struggle with the bulge each and every day. I’m entering a biggest loser contest at my gym (which I will WIN), and will probably try to count WW points at home. Gotta get fit in the new year! Happy new year to you!

  7. I hear u girl I am also 5’3 and right now I am 130…..for me that is too heavy. I also have an autoimmune disease that I sometimes have to go on heavy duty steroids that i can gain 10 pounds in a weekend :(.
I dont eat much of my sweets but I am Italian and I do eat Pasta, which I limit my carbs to once a day.
I have been juicing and eating tons of fruit and fruit smoothies. Here’s to a skinny healthy new year.

  8. Leslie, you took the words right out of my mouth! I am the exactly the same way short with a small frame. In high school and college I was super fit and skinny. I at annoyingly healthy and worked out like crazy every day. But since starting my blog and becoming a full time freelance food writer/consultant (about 2 years ago) the weight has piled on (15-20 pounds to be exact). My goal is to be more active in the coming year (something that I enjoyed in the past but stopped doing 2-3 years ago). Best of luck to you and everyone else. You will have to keep us posted!

  9. I usually eat the Special K bars for breakfast since if I don’t grab something I will skip breakfast and that is never good for my metabolism. But I will have to give the Slim Fast ones a try, they look tasty.

  10. I love the slim fast shakes. I haven’t tried the snack bars yet but they do sound good. Hope you have a Happy New year.

  11. There is NO way you ever weighed 200 pounds? Wow. You look great to me, but I do understand. My ass is begging for mercy after this month. Wishing you the best and a Happy New Year.

  12. Oh Leslie, I’m living this too. Always!! I’m told ‘you’re not fat’ and I’m not, but I AM extremely uncomfortable!! I was at a basketball game w hubby chugging beer & eating a big pretzel & I thought my button was going to pop off my jeans. I’m not joking. I had to unbutton my jeans at an NBA game. You can say that was a bit of a low point for me, I’m still trying to recover from it psychologically.

So like you said, calories in/calories out. I’m not against treating myself & not depriving myself, but, I did that all last month, and it’s time to buckle down for now. I’ll check out these shakes! In the same way in the morning, no time for big breakfast, usually drink a smoothie in the car on way to school.

You have my support! Good luck girl 🙂
