How to cut a Pineapple

Sure, pre cut fresh pineapple is convenient, but it is also more expensive and me being the Cheapy McCheaperson that I am, I cut my own. It’s easy and will save you money.

So in the event that whole pineapples intimidates you, here is my easy step by step photo journey.

Get yourself a beautiful golden yellow pineapple. If it’s green, it’s not ripe yet.

  1. oh i LOVE fresh pineapple! this was great!

  2. Jesus, does this bring back memories. In high school, I worked for a catering company in the summer (wedding season, ya know) and EVERY reception had the ubiquitous fruit and cheese platter. All I did for two summers in a row was cut fruit. It was torture and the owner of the company was such a witch–like a older, meaner Joan Rivers. Every time I cut a pineapple or a melon, I think of that crummy job!

  4. I love fresh pineapple, but I am guilty of buying them already sliced because I’m lazy like that – great tutorial!

Yep, that’s how I cut them. YUMMY

  6. I have a confession…I stopped buying pineapples because I broke my pineapple corer/slicer gadget. Ya, pretty lame huh?! I will be buying myself a pineapple today & slicing it myself thanks to you walking me through it 🙂 Now if you could just do a post on an easy way of cutting up a watermelon?? Ha!!

  7. Would love for you to come to my house and cut mine for me…lol. Great tutorial on cutting a pineapple. By the way, I wish I was at Blogher food hanging out with you.

  8. Nice! We all love pineapple, but my husband and I always “fight” over who HAS to cut it. 😉

    Hi

I’m a Sri Lankan and we eat pineapple through out the year. But we cut it differently. We never cut the top part. just twist it and remove. We never cut bottom part either. our pineapples come with the thick stem. so we use it to hold it while we cut. Then we cut off the spiky skin bit by bit. Then we slice it or cut in to chunks. We never cut off the core. If we cut the core we cut the pineapple length wise and cut little from the core. In that way you don’t waste most of your pineapple. Here also this fruit it bit expensive.
