Memorial Day is this weekend. Do you have your grill all dusted off and ready to go? I know I do.
I am the griller in the house. I know, I know..people think it’s a mans job, but not in this house.
Memorial day is pretty much the kick off of grilling season. I see no better opportunity than this family holiday to make Chicken Bacon Burgers with Cherry-Chive Mayo. The recipe was created by Carmell C. of Provo, UT. Her recipe won this years Spreading Smucker’s traditions recipe and essay contest. You can find her essay and recipe right here

We normally spend Memorial Day with family. Depending on whose pool is ready first, that decides whose house we get together at. We always have the grill going and the radio with some good music. This year, it will probably be at our house and I will probably make Rosemary Ranch Chicken!!!

Both my grown daughters will be home this weekend and we will celebrate Mother’s Day, their dad’s birthday and have several cookouts!
My hubby is active duty and this year he gets a four day weekend. We are all going off the grid, far away with no cell phones, computers or tv; just good food and great company!
Yes, my family celebrate Memorial Day! As you said, the best time to start the grilling season and have the family get together and have some fun and great food together. 🙂 hehe…I’m so glad that I’m not alone….I’m the one in charge of the grill in my house too. My hubby does help out though….on eating! LOL

Of course we pay homage to the brave men and women who gave their lives in service of our country. God bless them and their families! We usually celebrate Memorial Day by having and/or attending a cookout with our family. The long weekend is also great for getting some gardening done, taking a drive in the country, going to the farmers markets…or just relaxing with a glass of iced tea. I LOVE that I don’t have to go to the office on Monday! : )

I usually celebrate Memorial Day by going to my parents house and my boyfriends parents house for some good food and great memories.
We’ll be attending a memorial service at the local cemetary in a very small town. There are usually several speakers, music from the alumni band and at the end of the service the children distribute flowers to the graves of those who have served our country. Afterwards, we walk back to the firehouse where the firemen have spent the last 24 hours roasting several hogs. They’ll be serving pork sandwiches, sides and homemade desserts for a donation. Local businesses donate many goods and services to be auctioned off during a silent auction to raise money for the volunteer fire department. We spend a good portion of the day there visiting with everyone.

We get together with family and have a great time together, but it’s also so important to remember the meaning behind the holiday.
Normally we go to my parents cabin on the river for the weekend. Unfortunately, this year we will be attending a memorial service for an 18 year old friend on Saturday instead, and then crying all weekend while comforting each of the friends he left behind.
