brussel_sproutsuh huh…didn’t listen,, did you? So now how do you feel about making your own kid cry even after being warned.

Brussel Sprouts, hated by all children. Feared by all offspring.
Seriously, how many nights were you left at the dinner table long after everyone had left, starring at that one little cabbage that your parents said you had to eat or you couldn’t leave the table? Finally after crying for about an hour, snot down to your chin, probably saying not so very nice things about your parents in-between your quivering bottom lip cry, you take your fork and stab the sprout. You put it in your mouth and chew it with your mouth open, not breathing through your nose in hopes not to taste it. And for some reason, you take 20 minutes to chew it. Wouldn’t it have been better to chew it really fast to get it over with? I suppose we didn’t get it back then did we? Or maybe you had a dog and got off easy. Not so much in my house.
But you know what??? EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH BACON!
I took a risk in making these, you know, with all of their nightmare inducing qualities, but at least one of my kids liked them. I thought they were simply delicious. The drizzle of the balsamic glaze was perfect and the bacon certainly didn’t hurt.
I think Brussel Sprouts are making a come back in the food world. They are readily available fresh in the grocery store now. So pick yourself up a bag if you dare!!!
ROASTED BRUSSEL SPROUTS

1 pound fresh brussel sprouts, washed and trimmed of the rough “bud” on bottom and halved
Olive Oil
2 large shallots, thinly sliced
6 slices bacon, finely chopped
2 Tbsp Butter
Salt and Pepper
Preheat oven to 425
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large skillet over medium heat, add bacon and sauté for about 5 minutes. Add the shallots and cook for another 3 minutes. Add Butter , brussels Sprouts, salt and pepper. Toss to coat.
Pour the sprouts onto the baking sheet, roast for 30 minutes, turning once.
Remove from oven and drizzle with the Balsamic Glaze.

Broken Resolutions

Everyone seems so Gung-Ho this time of the year about listing their New Years resolutions.

Well, I am a realist. I know damn well if I made a resolution, I am going to break it. So I am going to share with you some of my past resolutions..all in which I have broken. Just keepin it real people, just keepin it real. Yeah Me.
DIET….um yeah, thats a joke
STOP PICKING AT MY FACE…you see I am a picker, dont even come near me if you have a zit on your nose, I will hold you down with all my might a pop it.
STOP EATING CHOCOLATE…who was I kidding with that one?
HAVE MORE PATIENCE…that one lasted 2 seconds.
MAKE A WEEKLY DINNER MENU…well maybe, just maybe, I like going to the grocery store four times a week..so THERE!
SAVE MORE MONEY…Williams Sonoma would be very upset with me if I stuck with that one.
HAVE MORE SELF CONFIDENCE…I wasted my pretty years thinking I was fat and ugly. If I only knew..if I only knew. I still avoid the bathroom mirror on the way into the shower.
STOP BEING A PESSIMIST…but my glass is half empty. If you fill it up I will be happy.
TRY TO REMEMBER PEOPLES NAMES…oh, I am sorry, what did you say your name was??
KEEP MY RECIPES ORGANIZED BETTER…I like my messy binders. I know where everything is.
Well I am sure there are a thousand more resolutions I forgot. Oh thats another one..HAVE A BETTER MEMORY.

I thought I would start 2010 with my most visited posts for 2009(per Google Analytics). It always cracks me up what things people google and it leads them to my site. Aside from food lurkers, I get lots of porn people ending up on my site. You know, with a name like “The Hungry Housewife”, that comes with the territory. I have even found my Videos, my total innocent videos on a Porn website(you can pick your jaw up off the floor now, as I did when I found out). Totally cracks me up. The site will remain nameless. But it is a funny one. To each their own right, food…porn..all in the same. Some people drool over me(who knew??,weirds me out a bit) but I prefer to drool over food.
Some of these posts might be new to you but you might have seen them before..either way enjoy!
